As happens when summer ends, the incidence of viral infections increases. And as many have predicted, COVID infections are on the rise.
Testing is a critical step that helps to stem the spread of the virus.
The N.Y Times reports that free test kits will again be available beginning Sept 26, 2024 through the end of the year.
“Every household in the United States will be able to order four tests from Covidtests.gov between now and the end of the year. People can also get tests by calling 1-800-232-0233.”
If you’ve had a COVID infection over the last four years, take time to read our latest post on bone health. I’ve included links to research showing potential impact of this viral infection on bone density. I’ll be following up with another post on the topic soon.
Heads up on the results from the at home COVID tests. The FDA says that these tests should reveal the presence of virus in the nose at least 80% of the time. Some individuals may test negative despite having COVID-19 symptoms. This may be due to a low level of virus in the nose. It's suggested that testing be repeated at 48 hour intervals if you have symptoms AND have a negative test result.

Thank you, Dr. Crane, for this Heads Up. And thank you for adding the very useful link, as well. I've ordered my test kit, and the USPS assigned it Order #: HG000CYKFSQO9T0HFZW553564477.
While I'm waiting to receive it, I do have some concerns, as in the past, there was a clear and obvious design in place, to ensure that the entire point of these test kits would not work, in my case, specifically.

The second hurdle to clear, is that many Long Covid sufferers (yes, all the symptoms checked) still, nevertheless, test as negative. I'm glad to see the kit tests becoming more sensitive and accurate, but this may still be a problem.
Moreover, if one is honest with one's doctor, they are not allowed to prescribe Paxlovid (Pfizer) or
anything else to TREAT Covid, if the symptoms have been going on for a long time. Yet I suspect Paxlovid and perhaps, other antivirals, may well help Long Covid sufferers; even if they don't completely fix the problem. Any alleviation at all, would be a much appreciated improvement.
